Book 2 Post 2

For Book 2, I read In Deep Shift: Riding the Waves of Change to Find Peace, Fulfillment and Freedom by Valerie Gangas. Initially, I thought the book would help me navigate a life-changing situation with emotional intelligence. However, it has exceeded my expectations by providing insight and practical tools for personal growth.

Through her writing, Gangas shares her wisdom on finding freedom from anxiety and distraction, embracing authenticity, and enhancing creativity and mental clarity. Her emphasis on deep acceptance of what is, rather than fixating on what could have been, has helped me find peace and balance even in normal circumstances. She highlights these lessons and then offers real-life applications such as meditation and practicing mindfulness.

Gangas emphasizes the transformative power of meditation, which takes us on an inward journey to rediscover our true nature. Through meditation, we can connect with a central self which she defines as “calm, happy, nurturing, and generous” buried beneath our pain and resentment.

Gangas' comparison of meditation to a washing machine is particularly compelling. Like a washing machine, meditation has the ability to clear our minds of the complexities and anxieties that overwhelm us daily. Through regular meditation practice, we can melt away these layers of stress and connect with our innermost selves, achieving a sense of peace and clarity.

What sets this book apart is how Gangas guides readers through every stage of their deep shift, providing valuable guidance for any major life transition. For example, in Part Three: Meanwhile Back in the Real World, Gangas guides the reader through a real-world maintenance plan post-deep shift. She almost celebrates how far the reader has come from this initial shift. She is able to apply this maintenance plan to any deep shift someone experiences, whether it's a career change, the loss of a loved one, or a change in your outlook on life. Despite your situation, her maintenance plan is universally applicable and empowering.

Another highlight of the book is Gangas' warm, conversational tone that invites the reader to reflect and introspect. Her thoughtful questions prompted me to contemplate how her insights could be applied in my everyday life.

Overall, In Deep Shift is a powerful book that I highly recommend. Its mental tools and practical advice offer a valuable guide for anyone experiencing a significant life change, or even seeking personal growth and fulfillment.
