Random Post #2
Top 5 Movies According to Naomie Di Martino
For my Random Post #2, I will discuss my five favorite movies and why you should watch them. To begin, I don’t and will never claim that I am any type of reputable movie critic, but I love these five movies purely because they make me happy every time I see them, and to me, that's enough.
Love Rosie (2014)
Baby Mama (2008)
Happy Feet (2006)
Roll Bounce (2005)
Pineapple Express (2008) / Superbad (2007)
To begin, Love Rosie is one of my favorite movies because it is perfect for a romantic comedy. It is a story about two childhood best friends, Rosie and Alex, who get separated in their quest for love and finally find their way back to one another. It is set in Dublin, and apart from their accents, there is everything to love about the two characters. It is the perfect rom-com for a night in with the girls, and the plot will leave you wanting to find your true soulmate. I rate this movie a 9.3/10.
Second, Baby Mama is a movie starring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, probably the funniest duo of all time. This movie is about a successful, single businesswoman (Tina Fey) who dreams of having a baby and discovers she is infertile. In her quest for motherhood, she hires a working-class woman (Amy Poehler) to be her hectic surrogate. This movie is one of the movies that had me laughing on the floor because of the one-liners. It's a movie where the viewer can’t be very sensitive to un-politically correct jokes, but if you have somewhat crass humor, you will love this movie. I rate this movie a 9/10.
Third, Happy Feet is another top five for me because penguins have always had a special place in my heart. Ever since I was young, I was so attached to this one stuffed animal penguin that I named Gigi, and from then on, they have been my favorite wild animal. I will not explain the plot of Happy Feet because I am pretty sure everyone has seen that movie, but I love that the movie celebrates individuality and being true to oneself despite potential critics. On top of that, the soundtrack is amazing, and I never thought I would be so happy to see a group of animated penguins coming together to sing Earth, Wind, and Fire. I rate this movie a 9.5/10.
Fourth, Roll Bounce is a very sentimental movie because I grew up watching this film, most likely over fifty times. This movie is about a teenage boy in Chicago who struggles with the loss of his mother and turns to roller skating as a way to deal with his angst. He and his friends are the stars of the skating rink they frequent, but when it closes down, they have no choice but to try out a more upscale spot, the Sweetwater Roller Rink. They enroll in a skating contest there and must prove themselves to the reigning champions. This movie stars Bow Wow, and I think the acting is phenomenal on top of other characters bringing a comedic aspect. I rate this movie a 9.4/10.
Finally, I was torn between two films, Superbad and Pineapple Express. Both movies star one of my favorite actors ever, Seth Rogan. No actor makes me laugh more than him because his humor is extremely stupid. I will not explain what Superbad is about because if you haven't seen it, my advice is to sit down and watch it now on HBO Max. However, Pineapple Express is a bit less known, so that I will give you the SparkNotes version of it. It is about a process server (Seth Rogan) and his marijuana dealer (James Franco) who wind up on the run from hitmen and a corrupt police officer after witnessing his dealer's boss murder a competitor while trying to serve papers on him. The movie is about a brainless cat-and-mouse race with the funniest duo. These two movies are my go-to when I need a good laugh, so I deem them classics in my book. I rate Superbad a 9.8/10 and Pineapple Express a 9.5/10.
I loved reading this! I was so happy to see Love Rosie at the top of the list. I just watched it a couple weeks ago for the first time and can definitely confirm it deserves spot #1. Another Sam Claflin rom com I adore is Me Before You. I haven't watched most of the others you named, but I'm always looking for new movies to add to my list!
ReplyDeleteNaomi,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the movie Love, Rosie. It is defintely one of my comfott movies. I love Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, and they are such a good duo in this movie and makes you so frustrated that they cannot just tell eachother their feelings towards one another. Great recommendations!
I loved reading your post and seeing your insight on these fun movies. I have only seen Baby Mama and Happy Feet, and I loved what you had to say about them. I could not stop laughing during Baby Mama and thought that Happy Feet was so cute. You have now inspired me to watch the rest of these movies!
ReplyDeleteSolid post and good recommendations. I'm just confused that there is a world where Happy Feet makes it to a top 5 list and Surfs Up doesn't? But I guess that just means there is room for debate. Superbad is a classic. And I don't know the other movies, so that is 4 more movies I know are worth watching.
ReplyDeleteThese are great movie recommendations. I am always searching for a new movie to watch so I appreciate this post a lot! Love Rosie is next on my watch list.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post because I'm looking for some new movies to watch. I actually haven't seen most of the ones you mentioned so I am excited to try them out.
ReplyDeleteGreat post and I like reading your takes on these movies! I have seen all of these movies except Roll Bounce and Love, Rose, but Superbad is one of my favorite movies of all time too. I’m not the biggest fan of rom-com but your post makes me want to watch Love, Rose.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post! Happy Feet is also one of my top movies because from K-12 our immersion teachers would always play it when it rained. Also, can we agree that Sam Caflin is the king of book adaptations?
ReplyDeleteGreat list Naomi! I have seen most of these and the ones that I haven’t I am now adding them to my list. Love, Rosie is one of my favorite movies might I suggest adding another Sam Claflin classic to the list "Me Before You" another 10/10.
ReplyDeleteI am a really big Love, Rosie fan and I think it is one of the top romantic comedies. I've never seen Baby Mama or Roll Bounce, but I can handle the humor and I enjoy roller skating so I will definitely give these a watch. Pineapple Express is hilarious and I love Seth Rogan and James Franco as a duo. And of course Superbad is a classic and i <3 Michael Cera.
